ECOBAC SSTP 3000 SEPTIC SYSTEMS
CONDITIONS REQUIRING TREATMENT
- A) Pipes and lines leading to the tank, the distribution box or the leach field are clogged.
- B) The leach field and or septic tank have standing water on the surface of the ground above them.
- C) Odours of raw sewage or decomposition are prevalent around the septic tank or the leach field.
- D) The entire system backs up whenever a toilet is flushed, the clothes washer or the dishwasher or the sink are emptied.
Origins of the condition
- 1) Cooking grease and fat have accumulated on the walls of the pipes and lines forming a black gummy layer that will entrap solid particles causing a block in the line. Organic solids spilling over from the septic tank into the distribution box and the lines leading to the leach field have coated the distribution box with anaerobic mud that acts in a fashion similar to grease and fat.
- 2) The pores in the adsorption field have filled with organic solids, grease, fat and anaerobic bacteria, so water is no longer absorbed into the ground. The lines leading from the septic tank, as well as the tank itself, are filled with solids and or grease and fat so that entering wastewater has nowhere to go but up to the surface of the ground.
- 3) Excessive amounts of wastewater are present and decomposing anaerobically in all sections of the septic system. Water is surfacing and bringing odour with it. The mixture of microorganisms needed to provide adequate treatment is no longer present in the tank or on the tiles and stones of the leach field.
- 4) A combination of all the above is probably taking place. It is possible that a physical block in the line leading to the septic tank itself has occurred, but that is unlikely to be a problem of accumulation, rather the presence of a root or stone, or a broken pipe that has collapsed.
Conditions A) and C) will be corrected by pouring SSTP 3000 directly into the toilet and flushing, allowing the bacteria to enter the system early and easily. Add 4 litres of SSTP 3000 initially and then starting the next week, add 1 litre of the SSTP per week for the next 4 weeks.
For conditions B) and D)* commence treatment as above and also hang one ECOSOCK G directly into the septic tank via the mushroom cap, or into the distribution box and lines leading to the leach field. Tie the tether string to the pipe or something else, to prevent the ECOSOCK floating off and blocking the outlet from the tank. Please ensure the crust if any is broken up before putting ECOSOCK down the vent pipe. Also check that the ECOSOCK is floating or submerged in the effluent liquid.
NB. ALWAYS FLUSH THE TOILET AFTER ADDING THE SSTP 3000. IT IS DESIRABLE TO FLUSH THE REQUIRED DOSE OF SSTP TO THE SEPTIC TANK LAST THING AT NIGHT TO GIVE THE LONGEST RETENTION TIME POSSIBLE.
A) Pipes and line will open and run freely. Grease and fat accumulation will be removed.
B) Puddling over tank and leach fields will cease. The system will flow normally.
C) Odours of raw sewage and the anaerobic decomposition of waste around the tank, the lines, the distribution box and the leach field will disappear.
D) The entire system will flow normally and allow utilization of household equipment without backups.
If the septic tank has been in operation for longer than five (5) years since it was installed or last cleaned, have the tank pumped prior to the addition of the SSTP 3000. This will preclude overloading the leach bed with organic material solubilized from the tank during treatment with the SSTP.
A septic tank used in conjunction with a water softener may experience problems with the leach field due to inorganic salt buildup in the pores of the leach bed. This buildup is the result of the regeneration of the softener brine. During the regeneration process, the metal ions of calcium, magnesium, iron and other constituents of the local water are washed off the softener and flow into the septic system. If they are not contained by the septic tank these metals will precipitate as their phosphates, hydroxides or sulphides and block the leach bed. The use of SSTP 3000 and ECOSOCKS will have little impact on leach beds whose pores are filled with inorganic salts.

- Hang the required number of ECOSOCKS in effluent chamber or wherever specified.
- Ensure that they will hang in the effluent liquid, i.e. remain submerged. Keep away from pump intakes on package plants.
- Tie off string to pipe work or other fixture to ensure ECOSOCK does not get washed away.
- Replace according to instructions given to you.
- Dispose of used ECOSOCK with garden or yard waste.
